About the Higher Ed Literacy Toolkit
The Ohio Department of Education – Office of Approaches to Teaching and Professional Learning and Office for Exceptional Children – and the Ohio Deans Compact on Exceptional Children are working together to support Ohio’s institutions of higher education (IHE) and their partner school districts to improve literacy outcomes for all learners in Ohio. Model syllabi, related course materials, and additional resources grounded in the science of reading are included in the Toolkit, and additional resources will become available as they’re developed. IHE faculty, in partnership with school district personnel, are encouraged to draw on the model syllabi and related resources as they continue to elaborate evidence-based, clinical practices for preparing and supporting candidates to teach all children, including those with disabilities and other challenges, to read.
